Do You Know The Secret?

About six months ago I decided to downsize my office area and decided to get rid of most of my Nightingale Conant programs. Since I’ve been in sales for over 40 years I had always believed in personal development. Part of this personal development was always trying to stay upbeat. In order to increase my knowledge and stay upbeat I bought quite a few programs from Nightingale Conant. At first I would play them on a tape recorder. Most of the first programs were on cassette tape. I could play them at home on my cassette deck or in my car as I drove from town to town. In this way I could learn about a subject between calls and not have to listen to the top 40 songs.

A lot of the first programs were from Earl Nightingale. Some of the other early innovators I listened to were Dennis Waitley, Jim Rohn, Zig Zigler, Brian Tracy and on and on. I enjoyed carrying some of these tapes each week to play as I drove between towns. My decision to get rid of these tapes was only because cars no longer had cassette tape decks and I had also gotten rid of my cassette deck. Since most of my programs were in cassette, I decided that the local library might want them. Boy was I wrong. They would only accept programs that had CDs so I ended up donating them to the local Goodwill store.

In 2006 a book came out by Rhonda Byrne called The Secret. This book was a compilation of approximately 20 to 25 authors and teachers on the law of attraction. According to Wikipedia, the law of attraction is the name given to the belief that “like attracts like” and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts one can bring about positive or negative results. For example if a person opened an envelope expecting to see a bill, then according to the law of attraction, the envelope would confirm those thoughts and contain a bill when opened. If on the other hand the person expected to find a cheque, under the law of attraction, they would find a cheque instead of a bill.

Whether you believe there are cosmic energies that can bring you wealth and happiness, or you think it’s just a bunch of hooey, the principle that the law of attraction is based on, can help you get through many ups and downs that come along with living life.

The law of attraction is basically a theory that claims that whatever you think about on regular basis becomes attracted to you like a magnet. If you consistently have a negative attitude then negative things will continue to happen to you. The more negative your attitude becomes the harder it is to have positive things happen. The opposite is also true. People who always seem to have a positive outlook attract good things into their lives. Because their lives are filled with good things, their attitude stays positive and more good things continue to enter their lives. If you look at the law of attraction simply from a logical standpoint it still makes sense.

For example, think about the salesperson. The salesperson needs to be positive and upbeat. They need to be able to make the people they are trying to sell feel comfortable. If the salesperson is feeling negative, it will show in his/her attitude. If the salesperson doesn’t exude confidence and happiness, the customer will see it. The more people refuse to buy from the salesperson, the more the salesperson’s attitude will falter, which will bring them even fewer sales. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

On the other hand, the salesperson who has a very positive outlook will inspire more confidence in their potential customers. There upbeat attitude and positive demeanor will make customers like them and trust them more. Because of their likability and general positive outlook, they will probably get many more sales than their negative counterparts, many from word-of-mouth via satisfied customers. As they make more sales their confidence grows even more and the cycle continues in a very positive way.

If you want to experience positive effects like this in your own life, then you will have to adjust your thinking. It can be very difficult to switch from a negative outlook to positive one, so you’ll probably need to practice the law of attraction every day. You should practice imagining what your life will be like once you’ve achieved all of the things you want. If you want to become wealthy, spend time each day thinking of what your life would be like once you have money. Think of yourself living in the home of your dreams, getting into the car you’ve always dreamed about, and flying to your favorite place in the world for a vacation.

In order to achieve great things, you have to think great thoughts. Whether you believe it’s cosmic force or simply attitude, you can get what you want just by thinking the positive thoughts.
